Q&A about what is a Wellness Coach & what are the benefits:
What type of topics are discussed & then will help provide new positive outcomes?
Is my wellness coaching inspirational, motivational, & educational like my personal training?
Yes, but you the client comes first, it's a client centered relationship. It's all about you & what you want to focus on. The inspiration, motivation, & education will weave through the session and take place after the session through follow-ups. The client will inform me what they know about the subject, I may then ask for permission to supplement further knowledge.
Why do I need a wellness coach? Why not just talk to a friend or family member to help me?
A coach helps the client develop a growth mindset, uses experimental techniques through different scenarios & helps train the client on decisional balance (pros/cons on how to move forward.
Through my FMCA positive psychology training, I will ask open ended questions and broaden the possibilities on the topic at hand, this will require self reflection and deeper thinking for the client. The coach/I will encourage exploration while highlighting the client's strengths, values, and the opportunities for learning. The coach helps the client expand their perspectives through different pathways like brainstorming, visualizing, scaling 1-10 questions, story playing, and writing/active assessment exercises that involves more senses and awareness. We will move from a broad perspective to narrowing down so that we can evaluate readiness and perhaps move into SMART actionable goals to help move from little steps to eventually lasting change. We will discuss potential obstacles and how to plan for possible setbacks. Clients learn to track their own behaviour through accountability, setbacks and successes.
How does a session work?
After we build some initial rapport, I will ask you what would you like to work on for that session. From there, you the client will share with me the topic. It is my job to actively listen, be honest, non judgemental, supportive, and provide reflective questions and feedback coming from a place of authenticity and curiosity. You are the expert of your life and it is up to you the client to decide how you want to move forward by the end of the session and to go ahead and verbalize it, bringing thoughts into action, and/or awareness to the degree of intrinsic motivation. I am there to guide and help you be the best version of you.
So will I be held accountable for what I say I will do by the next session?
At the end of your initial session, you will decide your plan and how you want to be held accountable. If you want me to contact you or support you in some way between that session until the next, you will let me know what that will look like. It may be me sending you some quotes or stories on the subject or education materials to help you thrive. At the follow up session, it's up to you on whether we discuss the progress you made from the previous session. In general, it will help you move towards your goal but it is always up to the client. This is how the sessions would progress (unless under the guidance of a physician).
Will setbacks happen? Then what?
Of course, in fact plan for it. Future sessions can open up new perspectives on the situation. Let's dive in and get curious ... How would someone else view this obstacle? What needs to be altered or changed?
Will we celebrate my success?
Hello, yes! Big or small, let's acknowledge and celebrate. You decide how and when.
Where do the sessions take place?
Sessions are held by an agreed location, like Zoom, FaceTime, on the phone, or at an agreed location. Yes, I am in Los Gatos, CA, but with today's technology, you can be in another state & we can still collaborate together online!
How long is each session?
Most sessions are 20 or 30 mins. Again, it is dependent on what is best for you the client.
Weight Loss, Self Care, & Breaking up with Sugar
Dr. Mark Hyman says in his book The Pegan Diet, "sugar is a drug of recreation." Yes, sugar can definitely be an addiction. If you are ready to decrease your sugar levels or break up with sugar, I am hear to support you. I know it's not easy but it is possible with the right intrinsic motivation. I have had candida twice and went through an over 60 day strict cleanse of no sugar, no alcohol, no caffeine, no gluten, no vinegar, and no dairy. I have been gluten free for 6 years linked with being hypothyroid. So I know what it is like to make changes. Through many different pathways and tools, we will find the right ones for you together. It is time to align your gut, your heart, and your brain and rid your body of inflammatio

"Having Christy as a coach has been a great experience. Her positivity and insight create a very supportive, upbeat environment to explore shifting perspective and motivation toward behavior change. Christy has been able to meet me exactly where I’ve been feeling stuck, to explore ideas and beliefs that have helped shift my ability to move forward. I’ve been able to incorporate new movement habits that have had a huge impact on my energy, mood and general well-being. Thanks Christy!!!"
"Christy’s thoughtful and curious questions help identify the heart of what matters surprisingly quickly. She helped me completely rewire my snacking. With Christy’s coaching, I’m now aware of why I’m eating in between meals. I thought I was mindlessly snacking, but realized I’m actually hungry and that my body needs fuel. With that in mind, when I go to the pantry or refrigerator, I go with a new mindset and more often, choose something more nourishing and healthy. Months later, it still rings true. I’m grateful for Christy’s thought provoking questions and guidance."
